Our 1st passerby of the wee morning hours!
A 1940's vintage Trumpy Motor Yacht
Jon (son-n-law) made me some homemade fused vodka
for Mother's Day and I loved it so much I have started
making my own! Three jars fermenting as we travel!
Our sunrise this morning...can you see it??!!
At least it is not as cold as last year!
Finally getting out of the rough water and heading
towards our anchorage for the night!
See the "No Shoes Nation" flag???
Uh-Oh Bob found water in the bilge!
I'll let him explain!
Coming into our "cubby hole" for the night!
North of Reedville, Va. off the Potomac River
Out our back door!
Not sure what all the blue things are
in the water??? Bob says oyster seedlings.
Now at anchorage, it's noon o'clock and
I'm making Bob brunch!
How many people can say they have had a
Duck omelet for breakfast!!
If it wasn't for Derek & Shelly we wouldn't
be able to say it either! Put me right to bed!!
Great start to the morning with 5 knots of breeze leaving Solomons Island, but the wind was out of the southeast, just where we need to go. Which means the nose into the wind and waves. By the time we got to Point Lookout the waves were peaking at 4 feet, making an real bumpy journey. It was still 6 hours to Deltaville and it would only get worse as the seas would continue to build the rest of the day. Not unsafe, just uncomfortable. So we bailed at Point Lookout, up the Potomac River, and into Coans River on the Virginia side. Sweet spot with very few houses along the banks.
Bob had checked the bilge about Point Lookout and noticed there was water in the starboard bilge. This is not good! The water is suppose to be on the outside of the ship. The float switch, that turns the bilge pump on, had broken free of its base and was just floating around the top of the water. The Einstein that installed it (not Bob) did not put a split-ring washer on the bolt, therefore, with the vibration the nut loosened and backed off causing the float switch to just bob around on the surface of the water. Bob fixed it, with a split-ring washer, and then we napped.
A quiet night with some drizzle caused us to only have a short Happy Hour. We're to get up tomorrow at 0530 hours to shove off. The wind is to be from the north/northwest so we'll have following seas. Seamen's favorite. We hook up with Gary and Jayne tomorrow in Deltaville where we'll finish the Duck in celebration!
